UNIX vs. Windows - Which Hosting Server Plan to go for?
In general, we recommend our Linux (Unix) plans because Linux (Unix) offers a little more stability, it performs faster then Windows, the value-for-money and better all round features. Most novice users and even advanced will not be needing any Windows based technologies. In fact most users prefer Linux (Unix) over Windows 2 to 1. Aside from this fact, the reality is Windows and Linux (Unix) are pretty equal. So, when considering which operating system, Windows or Linux (Unix), it honestly all really boils down to what your needs are.

Question Often Ask: "I am using Windows XP does that mean I need to get a Windows web hosting plan for my website?"

Answer: You can use either server platform, Windows or Linux (Unix) both are just fine regardless of the operating system you use for your computer or network at your home or business.

Most people are under the assumption that because you use Windows on your desktop, you should go with Windows hosting. This is simply not true because your website is not residing on your desktop but in a web server.

Question Often Ask: "I used FrontPage to build my website I need to get a Windows web hosting plan for my website?"

Answer: It makes no difference, Windows or Linux (Unix) both are just fine depending on the web host. (Both our Windows and Linux (Unix) servers allow FrontPage equally as well.

To Help Make Your Choice Easier Here Are Some Tips:

You Should Choose Windows: If your Web site development tools are based only on specific Windows applications or on Microsoft proprietary applications/ technologies. For example, ASP, ODBC, custom dll's, Access, and databases such as MSSQL. FrontPage may be used on both the UNIX and Windows platforms, since we support Microsoft FrontPage server extensions on both.

You Should Choose Linux (Unix): If your site development tools are not based on Microsoft proprietary applications/ technologies. For example, if you will be using a dynamic site, and decide that you want to go Perl, PHP or Pythlon as your language of choice. Linux (Unix) supports a wide variety of applications and features some of the fastest TCP/IP drivers, shared libraries and multi-user capabilities.

In a nutshell, if you are a novice or you still don't have a clue, you most likely will not require Windows hosting and we recommend that novice users go with one of our Linux (Unix) plans packages because Linux (Unix) offers more stability, performs faster, the value-for-money and better all round features.
